Job Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for:

-        The efficient and timely preparation of accurate, high-quality mechanical engineering, including HVAC, plumbing) design technical drawings using the relevant software, for specific complex design projects as directed by the Lead Mechanical Engineer

-        Carrying out all mechanical analysis and designs in conformance with all required local and international design codes, design standards and codes of practice as directed by the Lead Mechanical Engineer

-        Coordination with the drafting resources, and other resources required for completion of all drawings, specifications and bills of quantities

-        Strong working knowledge of all required mechanical engineering codes / standards, design and construction practices, and drawing practices for complex, large scale building and infrastructure design projects

-        Production of high-quality Revit (3D) and AutoCAD (2D) drawings for complex projects, and coordination of these drawings with the other disciplines.

The role requires building and maintaining professional relationships with internal stakeholders, other consultants, contractors, including coordinating with other Design Engineers, Lead Mechanical Engineer, Design Director, and project managers to assist with submittal of overall project deliverables for concept, schematic, and detailed design stage submissions in line with planned project timelines.

Job Duties

For specific allocated projects, in coordination with the Lead Mechanical Engineer, manage, plan and carry out;

• Complex mechanical engineering (including HVAC, plumbing) analysis, design and drawings, specifications and bills of quantities using appropriate analysis and design and drawing software, to the required quality project timeline, and design budget,
• Obtain all data and follow up with project managers, Lead Mechanical Engineer, other company staff, other consultants and contractors so that analysis, design and production of drawings, specifications and bills of quantities are completed in an accurate, timely manner, to the required quality,
• Establish and build professional relationships with other staff, other Consultants, contractors.
• Understand the project brief,
• Assist Lead Mechanical Engineer, other Engineering Designers with the preparation and implementation of the Project mechanical engineering designs in coordination with the assigned project team,
• Participate in and contribute to value engineering exercises,
• Coordinate with internal disciplines and teams within ECEC and with 3^rd parties in relation to technical, financial, safety, quality, schedule and other elements of a project, so that accurate mechanical designs and mechanical engineering drawings, specifications and bills of quantities are produced.

Specifically, the Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for:

1. Implementing and updating specific and overall project mechanical engineering designs, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities for multiple complex design projects and construction projects.
2. Assists the Lead Mechanical Engineer on matters that cross between interfacing elements, projects.
3. Work proactively, constructively, and fairly with all parties to ensure the successful execution of duties,
4. Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as directed, and as may be appropriate.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in mechanical engineering,
• Registration with the competent Engineering Authority (licensed to practice mechanical engineering design in Egypt),
• Specific training & qualifications in mechanical engineering analysis and design including use of specific software for HVAC, plumbing, etc.

Specific Skills Required

• Good level of competence in use of Revit, AutoCAD and other drafting software,

• Excellent working knowledge of internationally-accepted mechanical engineering, design industry principles and practices / safety / quality systems.
• Excellent knowledge of current mechanical engineering technology.
• Able to work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent problem solving, numeracy and English literacy skills.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Uses diplomacy and tact in discussions with other parties.
• Contributes to team building and enhancing morale across the team / project.

Experience

• Minimum 10 years of related work experience in a relevant engineering background, and previous experience in design drafting using Revit and AutoCAD,
• design experience on complex building projects is required.
